Shasta Rock Rollers ATV Club Photo GalleryStonyford Ride January 2003: We had quite a trip to Stonyford - Pat & Duane Shamblin, Holly Burgess, John & Tyler Horisk, Raymond, Ram Parker and Ben, and Al and Mary Ann Legg. Yes, it was a 3-hour trip over hill and dale, through pastures and across creeks which led up into the Mendocino National Forest. The last 8 miles were a challenge, a very narrow windy road going up and then down leading to a huge OHV park nestled in a valley with a full stream of water running through the camping area. There are 3 separate camping areas, each having a few camping spots with basic facilities and water. It is an area where everyone can ride, from the very beginner to the most advanced. The beginners can ride the main road, and the more advanced riders can ride the trails which traverse the road so you stay together. Ram & Raymond, and Tyler & John had mud from head to toe. Oh, the joy of riding in the mud! The Shamblins, Burgess and Leggs spent Saturday night enjoying the cool crisp air around a nice “big” fire. Waking early on Sunday morning, we donned our warm clothes and headed out on a nice ride up the mountain into the trees, all the way to the snow. The trails are very clearly marked. It felt like we were riding on top of the world, the views were spectacular, a photographer’s dream. Unfortunately, a forest fire went through the area a couple of years ago and in the general area around the campground sites it is barren but no fear there will be trees there again. It is a beautiful area! A great place for group camping and riding.
